About Robyn Sandys
My life has been full of transitions and insights with many twists and turns during my 68 years of life. I was a psych/anthropology major in college and then I found public policy my last year and graduated with a degree in community studies at University of California at Santa Cruz. During my college tenure, I worked as a Vista Volunteer with emotionally disturbed young adults. I also worked as a drug abuse counselor for a few years while finishing my undergraduate degree.
I won’t get into my entire bio here, but briefly, after college, I then went on to work for the Governor’s Office of Children and Youth for the State of Hawaii where I wrote policy papers related to youth concerns focusing mainly on child care and child abuse. I then worked for a state senator who chaired the Youth and Elderly Affairs Committee.
From there I worked for Public TV in Southern California (KCET) where I was fortunate to promote documentaries on a variety of social issues from child abuse to AIDS prevention. After several years there, I moved to the Chicago area where I headed up a nonprofit devoted to improving the lives of people living in the south suburbs. I also became the marketing director for a regional newspaper. I then moved to the Cleveland, Ohio suburbs where I went back to Public TV (Ideastream). This time I became a writer and producer of social issue documentaries focusing on childcare, depression, and many other social issues. Public television is a great educational format to discover resources and gain an understanding of how to change our world.

By now you are getting the picture that I have transitioned from places and professions many times. It was then in the mid-1990s that I made a huge leap when I adopted two young boys with my then-husband. We did the adoption from the public adoption system in Cleveland. My oldest who is now in his late 20s and was 2.4 years when he came into our lives and my youngest was 3 days old which over 25 years ago. They are half-brothers which is special. I became an expert via my own experiences in the adoption process, preparing for adoption, being an adopted parent of bi-racial children and children with special needs.
After several years of working for Public TV, my main profession ended up in the world of community development. The last seven years in Cleveland, I was the executive director of a nonprofit neighborhood development agency.
Since December of 2013, I have lived in the north suburbs of Chicago where I am still involved in community revitalization mainly working in the near west and northwest suburbs of Chicago. I am the executive director of an agency called North West Housing Partnership (NWHP.net)
As I lean closer to my late 60’s I figured I better start thinking about what I will do when I slow down or leave my current job. Alas, I decided on life coaching. I found a wonderful school to educate me on how to be a life coach and my plan is to transition myself into that role over the next 18 to 24 months. Please feel free to check out my LinkedIn page to learn more about me.
I believe my own life experiences add a deep understanding of what it feels like to change jobs/careers, locations; and raise a family helps me be a great fit for this work. Finally, I am a caring, introspective optimistic, and empathetic person who has a knack for understanding people from all walks of life. Been there and done it, what more can I say!
I believe together I can assist you in finding your way with self-confidence and ease. Text or call me at 440-823-2653. The first session is free of charge. Once we decide on a path to work together, we will develop a coaching plan that fits your goals and budget.
